Duplication
The CUTL can copy videotapes from NTSC (USA standard) to NTSC and from PAL/SECAM (European) formats to NTSC. Staff of the CUTL will provide these services for instructional purposes and non-instructional purposes within the limits of the copyright laws (see Copyright Law section). The faculty/staff member or department will be responsible for providing the blank media for the duplicates. Recommended brands are Memorex, Maxell, and TDK.
Video and Audio Transfer
CUTL equipment can transfer 8mm, MiniDV, and VHS videotapes to DVD disks. Because videotape is a magnetic medium, over the years, it gradually loses the ability to hold a video signal. Transferring important video footage to DVD is strongly recommended (within Copyright limitations). The Center can also duplicate audio CDs and cassette recordings, as well as transfer cassette recordings (also magnetic) to CDs. Blank disks should be provided by client.
Classroom Taping
The CUTL will provide camcorders and tripods to instructors for the taping of their class sessions and/or guest speakers for self-improvement, archival or instructional purposes. The client must provide tapes they wish to keep. CUTL staff will train the instructor or a designated student in the use of camcorders. Scheduled taping by Center staff is provided on a limited basis.
Television Studio
The Center has a TV studio with professional lighting, sound, and video equipment. It is a training facility for mass communication students who act as crew members for productions. If you have production ideas, contact Felecia at 530-6803.
