Dr. Anderson is Full Professor of Environmental Science in the Department of Environmental, Earth and Geospatial Sciences at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). She returned to full-time faculty status (responsible for teaching, research and service) at the beginning of the fall, 2013 semester. Dr. Anderson's research interests are in environmental health and justice, environmental monitoring, sustainable communities, and science education. She has received over $4.5 million in grants for research and training. She is a member of the Community Advisory Board of the Sustainable Triangle Field Site (UNC-Chapel Hill). Previously, she served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Environmental Education Fund and served on the Board of Trustees for North Carolina Environmental Defense. She is a member of several professional scientific societies and provides service on committees at NCCU.
In addition to being a faculty member, Dr. Anderson has held administrative positions at NCCU including Chair of the Department of Environmental, Earth and Geospatial Sciences (2006-2009 and 2011-2013), Interim Dean of the College of Science and Technology (2009- 2011), Assistant Dean for Student Services of the College of Science and Technology (2008-2009), Interim Associate Dean of the College of Science and Technology (2007-2008), and Director of the Environmental Science Program (1996-2006).
Prior to joining the faculty of NCCU, Dr. Anderson held positions including Special Assistant to the Associate Director for Health at the National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL, Office of Research and Development/US Environmental Protection Agency (Research Triangle Park, NC) and Research Medical Technologist/Histotechnologist at Merrell Dow Pharmaceuticals (Indianapolis, IN).
