While a graduate student in Art History Ms. Patterson was awarded the UNC-CH Arrrington Scholarship and the Samuel H. Kress Foundation National Graduate Student Fellowship. She completed her doctoral coursework in Art History at UNC-CH.
Ms. Patterson currently teaches courses in Art History and Arts and Humanities. In the mid-1990s Ms. Patterson joined other Arts and Humanities Division faculty to create the innovative Arts and Humanities Courses, I and II. She served on a interdisciplinary committee whose grant proposal was funded by the Ford Foundation, providing $250,000 to establish the Arts and Humanities II course.
Ms. Patterson worked for three years as a program coordinator for the NCCU Honors Program. During this time she planned and guided students on tours of museums, arts events, and trips to cultural and historic destinations in North Carolina and surrounding states.
