Biography

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree I was not sure what I wanted to do for a career. I became a full-time volunteer for three years where I gained tremendous experience and life skills. I worked for one year following my volunteer experience and decided to go back to school. I went to New York University to get my Master of Social Work. I stayed in NYC for 5 years following my graduation to work for a non-profit that served youth (11-25) coming out of detention and jail. I also worked closely with a few professors at NYU on research projects around mental health and juvenile justice. I moved to NC in 2005, worked with DJJDP for a year as a contractor doing research, then moved on to the Private For-Profit Mental Health world where I managed mental health programs and agencies who provide mental health services to children, families and adults. I am a licensed clinical social worker, have two young energetic children and a fantastically supportive husband.
