Johnny Alston, Ph.D., is Chair of the NCCU Department of Theatre and Dance. A graduate of North Carolina Central University, Alston earned a Master's Degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his doctorate at the University of Iowa in Theatre Criticism. Since coming to NCCU he has worked as Technical Director on over 100 theatre productions while serving as Artistic Director on more than 25 main stage productions. Dr. Alston has collaborated on 11 nationally juried theatre productions while working at NCCU and has publications which include the textbook; Yoruba Drama in English: Interpretation and Production (1988) and textbook photography in The Art and Craft of Stage Management (1997).
