Doris Tyler, Associate Professor, Curriculum & Instruction, Special Education
Biography
Doris Tyler is the Program Coordinator for Licensure Only in the Special Education Department at North Carolina Central University. Dr. Tyler, a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, received a Masters Degree and sixth year certification in special education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction at North Carolina State University. Dr. Tyler has varied educational experiences including special education teacher, special services chair, technology evaluation project director, central office administrator, technology facilitator, and education consultant with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. In addition to her many years as a teacher, Dr. Tyler has been actively engaged in staff development, curriculum development, assessment, and evaluation. Research interests include increasing achievement in at-risk youth, facilitating achievement motivation, integrating technology into curricula areas, and preparing teachers through distance education.
