Deidre Kelly serves as the Executive Specialist for the Centennial Scholars Program in the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at North Carolina Central University. In this capacity, she is responsible for the office's communications, assessments, budget management, student engagement, event planning, and advising the Eagle Sisters student organization. She serves on numerous committees and volunteers as the Junior Class Council Advisor. Outside of her NCCU duties, Ms. Kelly provides media consulting and freelance writing services for higher education institutions and other organizations.
Before joining North Carolina Central University in 2011, Ms. Kelly was employed for seven years as the acting director of public affairs and media relations manager at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Potsdam. There she served as the college spokesperson, wrote hundreds of news releases, planned commencement ceremonies, wrote for and edited the alumni magazine, managed the photography services, and supported the branding and strategic planning efforts of the college. She also has experience as a reporter and photographer for the Courier-Observer newspaper working in both the Massena, NY, and Potsdam, NY, bureaus covering a number of beats.
Ms. Kelly earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Niagara University in Western New York. She studied Organizational Leadership while working toward a Master of Science in Education degree at SUNY Potsdam. She completed an Executive Master of Public Administration degree at North Carolina Central University in December 2013.
