Jobs/Responsibilities

Establish records of all pieces of art entering and/or leaving the NCCU Art Museum, maintain records of all objects owned by or on loan to the Museum, including records of provenance, purchase or donation, photographs, evaluation, insurance, condition and location.

Accession all loans and permanent gifts to the Museum, arrange for shipping and receiving and photographing of objects, supervise storage of art objects.

Arrange for temporary loans and traveling shows to include transport, supervision of shipping and receiving, preparation of condition reports, storage while not on display, and consultation with conservator/ restorer regarding cleaning and repair of loan objects.

Pertaining to the transport of artwork it is the responsibility of the Arts Reproduction Specialist to build and maintain all related records and documentation including a computer database, paper files on objects and artists, photographic documentation, insurance schedules and object inventory.

Conduct research related to the artists and artwork represented in the permanent collection.

Identify and research problems and solutions related to documentation, policy, storage, and conservation.

Work with the Director and the Board of Directors Acquisitions committee to appropriately implement collections, management policy and procedures, integrate pest management policy and procedure guides, and a long-term conservation and collection plan.

Train and supervise volunteers and interns in proper art handling, research and collection management techniques as needed.

Document and acknowledge all gifts to the Museum; maintain liaison with the Director of Major Gifts to ensure proper recording of gifts.

Initiate and maintain contact with the Director of Corporate Risk Management, as well as, the underwriter?s office regarding insurance-related issues.

Schedule Board of Directors meetings, prepare meeting notifications.

Managing daily business of the Museum and representing the Museum in the absence of the Director.
