As a Keyboard Concentration major, you will have the opportunities to expand your skills as a performing pianist at the college leve. You have an opportunity to explore jazz keyboard, gospel and improvisational keyboard, and advance keyboard repertoire. Your music education certification also prepares you to take your keyboard skills into the music education classroom as a general music teacher. You also have the opportunity to study children's choral repertoire and conducting techniques and prepare yourself for a K-8 general music/choral music educator.
Complete a minimum of 128 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher, with a cumulative grade point average of 2.70 or higher for ALL music courses. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU.
Complete the General Education Curriculum Courses required of all undergraduates by the University.
Required music courses: MUSL 1010, 1220, 1600, 2110, 2120, 2210, 2220, 2405, 3110, 3410, 3420, 3500, 3530, 3560, 3600, 3601, 3602, 3860, 3920, 4600.
Either MUSL 1050, 1060, 1070, 1080 (or their equivalent, if voice concentration) or MUSL 1260 (piano).
Enrollment in an applied music primary course every semester.
Participation in a musical ensemble every semester.
Participation in workshops/recitals every semester except the student teaching semester.
Education requirements: EDUC 3000, 3010, 3020, 3120, 3130, 4118, 4218.
Note: The student must have a grade point average of 2.50 or higher for admission to the NCCU Teacher Education Program.
