As a Vocal Concentration major with a certification in Music Education, you are well equipped to take the baton in the general music classroom, middle school classroom, or in the high school. Your musicianship as a vocalist will allow you to serve as a role model for student preparing for roles as performing artists. You will explore vocal techniques, teaching methods, and repertoire which will prepare you for your role as a vocal music educator.
Complete a minimum of 128 semester hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher, with a cumulative grade point average of 2.70 or higher for ALL music courses. The last 30 hours must be completed at NCCU. Complete the General Education Curriculum Courses required of all undergraduates by the University.
Required music courses: MUSL 1010, 1220, 1600, 2110, 2120, 2210, 2220, 2405, 3110, 3410, 3420, 3500, 3530, 3560, 3600, 3601, 3602, 3860, 3920, 4600. Either MUSL 1050, 1060, 1070, 1080 (or their equivalent, if voice concentration) or MUSL 1260 (piano).
Enrollment in an applied music primary course every semester. Participation in a musical ensemble every semester. Participation in workshops/recitals every semester except the student teaching semester.
Education requirements: EDUC 3000, 3010, 3020, 3120, 3130, 4118, 4218. Note: The student must have a grade point average of 2.50 or higher for admission to the NCCU Teacher Education Program.
