28th Annual NCCU Jazz Festival: Jazz Festival Concert featuring NCCU Jazz Ensemble & NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble with Special Guest Artists

Description: NCCU's Area of Distinction, the NCCU Jazz Studies program presents the signature student ensembles, NCCU Jazz Ensemble--directed by Dr. Ira Wiggins and the NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble--directed by Lenora Helm Hammonds, joined by renowned special guest artists for an evening of jazz standards and original compositions. A special feature of the evening are stunning selections by student writers and arrangers. Event package tickets are $25 per night or $40 for the weekend package ($15 for students with ID at door only). Please note the concerts on Friday 4/27 and Saturday 4/28 will be held at PSI Theater, Durham Arts Council, Durham, NC.   The 28th Annual NCCU Jazz Festival, sponsored by the Jazz Studies program, will begin on Monday, April 23. The festival features concerts, master classes and workshops. All events are free and open to the public except for the Friday and Saturday night concerts, which require tickets.   • Kick Off - NCCU Instrumental and Vocal Jazz Combos Concert (Combos 1 & 2) at 7 p.m., Monday, April 23, in B.N. Duke Auditorium
  • NCCU Jazz Program Faculty Concert at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, in B.N. Duke Auditorium
  • Instrumental & Vocal Jazz Combo Concerts (Combos 3 & 4; Jazz Ensemble 2)  7 p.m., Wednesday, April 25, in B.N. Duke Auditorium
Ticketed Events (Individual Tickets – Adults $25, Students $15; Weekend Package – Adults $40, Students $25)
  • NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble featuring drummer Nate Smith and Kinfolk, 8 p.m., Friday, April 27, at PSI Theatre, Durham Arts Council, 120 Morris Street, Durham, N.C.
  • NCCU Jazz Ensemble featuring The Russell Malone Quartet, 8 p.m., Saturday, April 28, at PSI Theatre, Durham Arts Council, 120 Morris Street, Durham, N.C.


  • Friday Concert with Nate and Kinfolk /NCCU Vocal Jazz Ensemble: $25 Adults, $15 Students 
  • Saturday Concert with Russell Malone Quartet/NCCU Jazz Ensemble: $25 Adults, $15 Students
