Review and understand the financial aid indicated on the award notification and complete the necessary paperwork for receiving each award. The financial aid awarded represents assistance for the fall and spring semesters. A signed copy of the award notification must be provided to our office.
TIP #2 Finalize Pending Documents
Submit requested documents such as federal tax returns, W-2 forms and verification worksheets immediately. Please ensure that documents are appropriately signed. If your financial aid is pending, you are ineligible for a book allowance.

View financial aid status and awards in MyEOL, enter secure login with NCCU ID and PIN number, click "login", elect "Banner SSB", select "Student and Financial Aid", "Financial Aid", "My Award Information", "Award for Aid Year", "Select year", submit and "View All Awards". TIP #4 Loan Requirements
New and transfer students who desire a Stafford loan (subsidized or unsubsidized) are required to complete the loan entrance online at www.studentloans.gov and complete a master promissory note online at www.studentloans.gov. Also, if you desire a parent loan, a parent must complete a PLUS Loan credit check form with our office and the same parent must complete the master promissory note online at www.studentloans.gov.
TIP #5 Stafford Loan Delay
Delayed loan disbursements are required for first-time, first year borrowers. Stafford loans will be credited for Freshmen for students who have accepted loans, attended a loan entrance counseling session and completed a master promissory note 30 days after classes begin. These funds will be considered for meeting the one half payments.
TIP #6 Contract for Work-Study
Obtain a work-study contract from the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid. Contracts will be issued the last week of August in Room 104 of the Student Services Building for new students. Students are paid $7.50 per hour for regular work-study and $8 per hour for the America Reads program (tutoring elementary students). There are America Reads positions available. If interested, please visit the Academic Community Service Learning Office (200 Eagle Campus Drive).
TIP #7 Award Revisions
Automatic adjustments to financial aid awards are performed for undergraduate students with less than 12 credit hours, upon receipt of external resources (e.g., scholarships) and for students who withdraw. Revised award notifications are not prepared; you may review your account adjustments online.
TIP #8 Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
Federal regulations require that schools monitor the academic progress of each applicant for financial assistance and the school certify that the applicant is making satisfactory academic progress towards earning his/her degree or certificate. View the policy online at www.nccu.edu/ssa.
TIP #9 Financial Management
Budget and plan for academic expenses including summer school. View your account balance periodically to ensure that your account balance is zero. Always borrow wisely, remember student and parent loans must be repaid!
TIP #10 Apply Early
Apply for financial aid for the next school year on January 1 of each year; the application may be filed online at www.fafsa.gov. To complete the FAFSA, you may use your final check stub to record your earnings from work, if you have not filed a federal tax return. Maintain a copy of pertinent income records (W-2's, tax returns, etc.) that are needed for filing the FAFSA.
