HelpdeskWelcome to the Eagle Technical Assistance Center (ETAC).  We are a proactive unit that provides services desired by students, administration, faculty, and staff while supporting strong team work goals that parallel the mission of NCCU. We are committed to continuing to move forward in the technological arena by creating new and exciting technological avenues for our campus. 

ETAC is the frontline of support for the NCCU Information Technology Services Department.  We use Numara FootPrints Service Desk Management System to track all issues as well as direct issues to the appropriate ITS Team. Having a technical issue or question, let us help you and get IT done!

Contacting ETAC

There are multiple ways to get technical assistance from ETAC.

  • Submit a Help Request Ticket via the web to https://helpdesk.nccu.edu
  • Send an e-mail with your issue to helpdesk@nccu.edu .  Make sure that you include the following items to ensure your issue is resolved in a timely manner:
    • First and Last Name
    • Department
    • Telephone Number
    • Office Number and Building
    • Detailed Information about your problem
  • Call ETAC at 919-530-7676 and  speaking to one of our knowledgeable Helpdesk Specialist.
  • Visit ETAC for Face to Face IT Support or to drop off your laptop for servicing. We are conveniently located in the H. M. Michaux School of Education in Room 3042.

Monday – Friday: 8:00 am – 8:00 pm
Saturday: CLOSED
Sunday: 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Frequently Asked Questions

I am having issues with Spelling & Grammar Check in Microsoft Office products, what can I do?
Follow the steps below, if this does not work for you contact ETAC.

  • Open Microsoft Office Word 2007
  • Click on the Microsoft Office logo on the top left of the screen.
  • Click on Word Options
  • Click on Popular at the left hand side Pane
  • Click on Language Settings at the bottom
  • On the left hand side under “Available editing languages“, look for English (Australia) then click Add
  • At the bottom where “Primary Editing Language” change it to English (Australia) at the drop down menu
  • On the right hand side under “Enabled editing languages“, highlight any other language other than English (Australia) then click Remove in the middle.
  • Click on OK
  • Click on OK again
  • Restart the whole computer

How can I open Office 2007 documents if I don't have Office 2007 installed?
NCCU is currently upgrading to Office 2007. If you don’t have the new version, you can still open 2007 documents. Download the Office 2007 converter  which will allow you to open any Office 2007 document. You do not need to have Office 2007 installed.  If you need assistance with the download, please call ETAC.

Does NCCU offer student pricing for computers/laptops?
Yes.  We have the University Laptop Program.  Visit http://www.nccu.edu/Students/laptop.cfm  for more information.

If I am working from home, can I access my files?
Yes, just as long as you save your files to your my Documents folder you can access your files through WebVPN.  The address is https://webvpn.nccu.edu

I am a student, how do I locate my NCCU username and password?
Visit https://webapps.nccu.edu/ and click on Password Management.
