Security Policy
Approved July 22, 2005 by The Office of Research Evaluation and Planning.

The Data Warehouse will make it possible to view data and create reports from all major data systems on campus - student , personnel, finance, space/facilities. While a primary goal of a data warehouse is to remove system-related limitations in access to data, the Office of Research Evaluation and Planning agreed that the sensitivity of certain data and the potential for misuse make certain restrictions necessary. Therefore, the following security model was adopted.

All employees desiring access to the Data Warehouse must apply for authorization to view and query specific levels and types of information.

Authorization will be granted based on the employee's scope of responsibility across units/departments and function within the organization.
  • Users will generally have access to detailed data only on the unit(s) for which they are responsible.
  • Access will be restricted to types and levels of data that are relevant to the user's job duties.

Most statistical summaries aggregated at the University level will be available to all users. Examples include enrollment reports, institutional financial statements, employee counts, and other information already being reported as public information.

The Budget Planning Data Reports displaying selected financial, student, employee and facilities statistic for each of the major academic and administrative units will be available to all data warehouse users. This is consistent with the current policy of allowing open access to the Budget Planning Reports for all authorized WebFocus users, regardless of organization or function.

Training may be required prior to receiving authorization for certain data warehouse functions to anise appropriate use of the data.
