During the academic year students will participate in the EAGLES Explorers Saturday Academy.  Students will meet for one Saturday per month, September through April, excluding December, for local field trips (e.g. N.C. Museum of Science, Morehead Planetarium, Exploris, NC Aquarium, NC State University Science House, BBRI). Where possible, the field trips will also serve as career awareness sessions. During the field trip, there will be teaching and discussions. Students will be given an information sheet, prior to the scheduled day of the field-trip, enabling them to be familiar with the site to be visited.

The day of the trip they will be given a list of questions which they must answer during the field trip. With the help of teachers and NCCU undergraduate assistants, students will stay involved and focused on obtaining the information needed to answer their questions. Writing across the curriculum will be reinforced by requiring students to maintain a journal of their activities and prepare formal written reports on the activities. Each spring, there will be an  EAGLES Covering the Heights of Science Day which will bring the students together for career awareness and exploration sessions.
