Lyceum Series Welcomes Concert Pianist William Chapman Nyaho

Concert pianist William Chapman Nyaho will perform at North Carolina Central University on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. in the B.N. Duke Auditorium. Doors will open at 6 p.m. This free event is part of the university’s Lyceum program and is open to the public.

Nyaho, a Ghanaian American once served as a North Carolina visiting artist and is a regular guest clinician, giving lecture-recitals and workshops advocating music by African heritage composers. He has performed in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America and has been a soloist with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra.

Chapman Nyaho’s music has been described as, “altogether enthralling,” by the Cleveland Plain Dealer. His piano duo, the Nyaho/Garcia Duo, received critical acclaim for their release, Aaron Copland: Music for Two Pianos. His solo release, SENKU: Piano Music by Composers of African Descent was recently choreographed by Tony Award-winning choreographer Garth Fagan. His most recent project, ASA: Piano Music by Composers of African Descent was released in 2008.

A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he received his doctorate in musical arts, he also holds degrees from Oxford University and the Eastman School of Music. He is also the recipient of prizes from international piano competitions.
