|Dr. Jennifer Schum, Associate Dean, University College|
Dr. Jennifer Schum has been named Associate Dean of the University College at North Carolina Central University (NCCU). Schum comes to NCCU with more than 10 years of higher education experience.
Prior to her appointment, Schum served as Associate Director of Academic and Career Planning at Meredith College in Raleigh. In this position, Schum managed 23 programs, overseeing advising for conditionally admitted students and transfers. At Bellarmine University in Louisville, Ky, Schum coordinated a campus wide advising program and trained faculty members to teach the first-year experience course. Schum is also experienced in working with international students and students with disabilities.
Her research interests include freshman, transfer and adult student transitions to college, advisor development, student learning outcome assessments and college student mental health. She has been published in the SACSA Newsletter and presented at national higher education conferences.
She is a member of the American College Personnel Association; National Academic Advising Association; North Carolina Adult Education Association; North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities, NASPA and Southern Association for College Student Affairs.
Schum earned her Bachelor’s Degree from James Madison University, her Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Spaulding University and a second master’s and doctorate from the University of Louisville.
