The Test Prep Program (TPP) began offering test preparation opportunities to NCCU students and others beginning in the summer of 1996. The program provides test preparation for the four major graduate and professional school tests: GMAT, GRE, LSAT, and MCAT. Through this program NCCU wants to increase admissions options for NCCU students. Since 1996 the services of The Princeton Review, Durham, NC, have been contracted for this program. All classes other than the MCAT are held on the campus of NCCU. The several components of the TPP are described below.
Strategy Sessions: Given once each semester this component offers The Princeton Review Strategy Sessions for the GMAT, GRE, LSAT and MCAT at no charge to the student. Students are encouraged to take a free practice test at Review.Com prior to sessions and bring their scoring reports to the session for interpretation and discussion of testing issues and strategy.
Math Refresher: This three week tutorial is designed to provide math readiness to students who plan to take follow-up GMAT or GRE test prep tutorials. It provides eighteen (18) contact hours and students must pay a small fee to participate.
Summer Test Prep Courses: Full length (six weeks) The Princeton Review tutorials for the GMAT, GRE and LSAT starting in early June of each summer. The twelve week MCAT tutorial starts at the end of May. NCCU graduates students pay at most one-half of the retail cost of these tutorials; in most summers the fee is substantially less. The six week tutorials provide thirty-six (36) contact hours of instruction and the MCAT provides 138 contact hours with students setting aside additional time for practice tests.
LSAT Bridge: This component provides additional practice and review for LSAT students between the end of the summer course and the LSAT, usually held in late September or early October. Students meet for four weekends: practice tests on Saturday morning and test review on Sunday afternoon. There is a small fee for this component.
Regular semester Test Prep Tutorials: Full length The Princeton Review tutorials are also offered each semester. Minimum enrollments required in all tutorials.
