Academic Advising Assignments

In University College Academic Advising, we recognize that many students within their first two years of college are in the process of discovering their talents and potential career options and will change their major, sometimes more than once. Therefore, these students benefit from a continuous relationship with an academic advisor throughout this progression. To allow for a high level of interaction between advisors and advisees, we attempt to keep advising loads as low as possible. Most academic advising assignments are made alphabetically, but specific advisors are assigned to students in the Honors, Aspiring Eagles, and Eagle in Flight programs; transfer students; and music and STEM majors (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental & Geographic Science, Math, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Physics).

Newly admitted first-time freshmen and transfer students are first advised in University College during new student orientations (SOARs). Transfer students entering NCCU with 53 or more transfer credit hours will be advised by faculty within their major department during orientations. Students are notified of their permanent advising assignments through a welcome email the week before classes begin, and are sent information about logging into their GradesFirst account to schedule advising and tutoring appointments.
