Career Opportunities

Students who successfully complete the program are awarded the Bachelor of Social Work Degree. The Social Work Program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Our graduates are thus fully qualified for positions in the field of social services requiring a BSW form and accredited college or university. Graduates for our program are also eligible for advance standing at selected graduate schools. Advanced standing students are admitted with second year status and are able to complete the requirements for the Masters of Social Work in one year as opposed to the traditional two years. The most recent advanced standing agreement is with the University of Western Michigan . Students selected for this program receive a full scholarship covering tuition, books, fees, and a fellowship for living expenses.

The Social Work Program at NCCU is also a member of the North Carolina Child Welfare Education Collaborative. Our program is one of seven undergraduate programs in the University of North Carolina System certified by the NC Division of Social Services Child Welfare Training site. Students selected for this program are eligible to enter the State Child Welfare system with the classification of Child Welfare Worker II rather than Child Welfare Worker I.

Graduates of our program have had great success in securing employment in the expanding social services job market. The BSW from an accredited university has "open doors" for our graduates in a variety of social services fields. These fields include:

  • Special Services with Disables
  • School Social Services
  • Child Welfare
  • Public Welfare Services
  • Corrections
  • Elderly Services
  • Medical Social Work
  • Youth Services
