CIS StategyWelcome to the Computer Information System Program
at North Carolina Central University School of Business

The Computer Information Systems Program combines a strong business curriculum with the experience and technical skills needed to compete in today's information-intensive society.  Four of the ten  occupations  with the most job opening at the bachelor’s degree level are in the computer information systems field.

Computer Information Systems (CIS) is about applying information technology to business problems. The emphasis is on finding solutions.  To the CIS professional, information technology is a tool, not an end in itself.

CIS is the application of information technology to support business activities.  Because businesses are rapidly changing, there is a growing demand for graduates who have the analytical skills and business background to make business processes more productive.  Therefore, students of this degree program will learn to analyze an organization’s information needs, then design a computer-based system to meet these needs, and finally implement and maintain the system.

To develop information systems that fill users' needs, CIS professionals must understand organizational structures, business objectives, and business operations (including processes and the flow of data between processes), how to communicate effectively with users, and how to design systems that support their activities.  CIS professionals must also stay up-to-date with evolving information technologies and have a solid foundation of technical skills.  Thus, the CIS degree program combines computer-related courses with business courses.

With a degree in CIS, you will have the tools to succeed in all areas of business, non-profit, or government work. NCCU CIS alumni can be found working and adding value to all types of organizations, large and small, all around the world.

CIS graduates are usually hired as:

• Business Analyst
• Information Assurance
• IT Auditor
• IT Consultant
• Mainframe Analyst
• Network Security
• Programmer
• Project Manager
• Quality Assurance Analyst
• Systems Analyst

Our primary objective is to help students achieve their potential in becoming highly skilled information technology professionals in the global business marketplace.  The theory meets practice classroom experience is at the core of this objective.  We continuously evaluate and revise our curriculum to make sure we are on the cutting edge of information technology and business education.  If you want to know more about how organizations operate, how teams work together, how projects are managed, and how to leverage information technology to make people and organizations more effective, the NCCU CIS program is the right place for you.
