Welcome to North Carolina Central University’s Department of History’s webpage.  This virtual tour will introduce you to the Department that forms the core of the Liberal Arts at North Carolina Central University. Faculty and students in our Department are involved in teaching and learning History through innovative research, exciting courses, student projects, and service learning.  An award-winning faculty of twelve scholar-teachers offers instruction in American, African American, African, Latin American, African Diaspora, European, and Public history.  Programs of study present undergraduate students with opportunities to teach history at the secondary level, practice public history, pursue graduate or professional study, or enter into a variety of careers.  The Department continues to produce more students who have earned the PhD in History than any other Historically Black College or University.

Students in the M.A. Program may concentrate in American, African, African American, African Diaspora, Latin American, or European history.  In August 2008 we plan to introduce a new program in Public History.  A recent review of the M.A. Program has lead to the introduction of seventeen new courses.  M.A. students are able to enroll in courses that offer the most current interpretations of the discipline.

Students in our Department enjoy and benefit from a mentoring environment that allows them to reach their full potential and place them in a position to be successful.

History is exciting at North Carolina Central University!  Come join us!
