Haw Riverkeeper Elaine Chiosso Speaks at NCCU
Haw River Assembly Visits NCCU

Elaine Chiosso, the Haw Riverkeeper, came to speak to students and faculty on February 16th, 2012.  The Haw River is a major waterway in Central North Carolina.  It is approximately 100 miles long and drains about 1,700 square miles of North Carolina, including the southern half of Durham County.  It empties into Jordan Lake, a 14,000 acre reservoir.  The Haw River and some of its tributaries also include threatened waterways that are polluted due to construction and facilities on or near the river that pollute it.

The goal of the Haw River assembly is to promote environmental education, conversation and pollution prevention.  The assembly organizes regular clean-ups along the river and its tributaries, as well as field trips for school groups.  For more information about the Haw River Assembly, please visit: http://www.hawriver.org/
