Joseph Roberts explains his poster at the SE-DAAG Conference in Asheville, NC
DEEGS Represented at SE-DAAG Conference

The DEEGS was once again represented at the SE-DAAG (Southeast Division of the Association of American Geographers) Conference held in Asheville, North Carolina, from November 18 – 20, 2012.   Undergraduate student Joseph Roberts competed in the Undergraduate Honors Poster Competition.  The title of his poster was “Accuracy Assessment of Historical Maps from the Roanoke River Watershed, North Carolina.”  Assistant Professor Timothy Mulrooney presented on the “Exploring Patterns and Factors Related to Deer-vehicle Collisions in Central North Carolina” along with graduate student Erik Green.  Besides the obvious proximity to roads, many deer-vehicle collisions occur where pixel variety is highest (many different land cover types in a small area), as well as near low-intensity residential and commercial areas.

History student David Wait competed in the Southeast Geography Bowl, representing the North Carolina team against 8 other state teams in the Southeast.  The team went 5-2 to advance to the finals, where they lost a close game to Georgia in the final, 90-70.

Please visit the DEEGS YouTube page (http://www.youtube.com/DEEGSNCCU --> DEEGS Happenings) to see Joseph describe his poster at the conference.
