NCCU Student DeAndre Carter was a member of the award-winning North Carolina state team at the World Geography Bowl at the SE-DAAG (Southeast Department of the Association of American Geographers) Conference held in Savannah, Georgia, from November 20 – 22, 2011. DeAndre competed well enough in the North Carolina Geography Bowl on September 30th to be asked to represent the state against 7 other states in this competition. There were also representatives from Appalachian State University, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Charlotte. In the first day of competition, North Carolina competed in round-robin format against the 7 other states in the SE-DAAG region. DeAndre contributed 30 big points in a win over Georgia in Round 2 of the competition. North Carolina went 6-1 in round-robin, with its only loss being a close 60-55 defeat at the hands of Florida. The final pitted the teams with the 2 best records from the round robin format. North Carolina defeated Virginia 140-55 in the final. Congratulations to DeAndre and all members of the North Carolina team!
