| DEEGS Student Nelson Holden Explains His Poster on DUI Fatalities |
The DEEGS was well-represented at the SE-DAAG (Southeast Department of the Association of American Geographers) Conference held in Savannah, Georgia from November 20 – 22, 2011. Graduate Student Erik Green and undergraduate student Nelson Holden presented posters on their research. Nelson looked at the spatial distribution of DUI fatalities across the United States. He saw that the highest rate (DUI deaths per 100,000 people) and percent of automobile deaths that are DUI-related were concentrated in the upper Rocky Mountain states of Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota, as well as the Deep South. Many of the attendees were impressed.
