The Seventy-Fifth Inaugural Anniversary Celebration for the Department of Art began with a gathering together of more than a hundred well-wishers. Alumnae, administrators, faculty, and current Art Majors assembled in the Edwards Auditorium on April 6, 2014 for addresses and words of praise from the NCCU Chancellor, Debra Saunders White, Provost Johnson Akinleye , Dean Carlton Wilson, Professor Melvin J. Carver, and Chairperson of the Department, Professor Connie Floyd. The Department has plans for further events to showcase the outstanding work of its graduates at events to be held in the fall, 2015.
Bus Trip to Washington, DC
For the spring 2014 semester, the Department of Art offered a one-day bus trip for all students majoring in Art. The trip was a tour of art museums in Washington, D.C. The museums visited were the Howard University Gallery, the Museum of African Art, the Hirschorn Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art

Artwork by students in North Carolina Central University’s Department of Art are featured in an exhibit in the NCCU Art Museum entitled “New Horizons: NCCU Artists.” The exhibit runs from May 2 through July 26 as part of the museum’s annual student exhibition for the 2015-2016 season.
