The Institute for Homeland Security and Workforce Development partnered with the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium (RDPC) in 2007 when North Carolina Central University was selected as one of six academic partners chosen to prepare rural emergency responders nationwide for all-hazards incidents. Congress and the Department of Homeland Security established the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium to develop and deliver all-hazards training in support of rural homeland security requirements. Led by Eastern Kentucky University the consortium is comprised of academic partners that possess extensive experiences and unique capabilities in serving the rural emergency community. The partnership continues as the RDPC and the Institute for Homeland Security and Workforce Development are currently collaborating to develop training courses for the Department of Homeland Security.
