Nuclear Mesh Detector: Activities

The Center is supporting development of a robust, fast, high resolution radiation detector (hybrid mesh-micromegas detector) that will be built in collaboration with Jefferson National Laboratory. This detector is a new type of wire chamber, which allows a very high rate and it is robust in construction/operation method. This detector has strong application potential in nuclear laboratories, homeland security and medical diagnostics. The project is still in it initial stage. Until now the following tasks are completed:

  • Performed are calculations needed for the detector design.
  • Based on the calculations designed is the micro fabrics which is the basic of the detector
  • The micro fabric is produced in collaboration with (Dr. John A. Anderson) Textile Technology Center at Gaston College Belmont, NC.
  • The detector is currently under construction.
