Juris Doctor - Law School

Program Description: 
North Carolina Central University School of Law offers two programs leading to the juris doctor degree: a full-time day program and a part-time evening program. Founded during a time of lawful racial segregation, an important aspect of the Law School's mission is to attract capable persons from diverse backgrounds. NCCU Law seeks students who are committed to public service and to meeting the needs of the underserved. Just as when the Law School opened its doors nearly seventy years ago, students at North Carolina Central University School of Law receive a broad-based legal education which treasures diversity and encourages freedom of expression. Today, the Law School holds one of the most diverse student bodies in our nation and continues to be a school of opportunity. The School has a rich and brilliant history; one of racial segregation, adversity, triumph, transition, growth and development. The North Carolina Central University School of Law is fully accredited by the North Carolina State Bar Council and the American Bar Association.

Admissions requirements
Applicants must satisfy the application requirements for each type of applicant.  Applicants may apply to the School of Law as a First Time Applicant , Re-Applicant , Transfer Student Applicant , Visiting Student Applicant or a Returning Student .  Applicants should check the Law School’s web site for specific requirements for each of these.  Only completed applicant files are reviewed by the Admissions Committee.  The School of Law begins accepting on-line applications October 1st . Application materials submitted prior to October 1st will be returned to the sender. The application deadline for submitting all application materials is April 15th.

Number of faculty:  Approximately twenty-eight full-time professors, clinical instructors, and administrators, including eighteen women and eighteen minorities, work with a number of distinguished adjunct and visiting professors

Number of students:  The Law School enrolls approximately 550 total students (day and evening).  Students who have attended the Law School range in age from twenty to sixty-five and have diverse education, socio-economic backgrounds and professional experiences.

Location of course offerings:  The School of Law is located on the campus of North Carolina Central University in the Albert L. Turner Building, an 87,672 square foot four-story brick structure recently renovated and expanded.  The School of Law has cutting edge technology throughout the building, including wireless capability and “smart” classrooms.
