Placement Testing
Academic skills assessment and course placement activities are designed to evaluate an individual's skills in reading, English grammar , writing, mathematics and foreign language. There is no pass or fail! The results of the assessment will place you in classes that best meet your needs, ensuring that your classes are neither too difficult nor too easy for you.
Students may take the placement tests after completing the enrollment application unless the Placement testing process is waived. SAT scores of 530 Reading and 480 Math or ACT scores of 22 Reading and 20 Math will waive the placement testing process. All new students, transfer students, and special students will need to come to the testing center to receive documentation of testing clearance.
Placement Testing is administered Monday through Friday from 8:30am until 2:00pm. Although an appointment for this service is not required, we strongly encourage students to set an appointment so that there is no scheduling conflict with other examinations that may be in process.
General Information about ACCUPLACER
What is ACCUPLACER?
ACCUPLACER is an assessment which can help students identify their academic strengths and needs to assist in planning an appropriate schedule of coursework at North Carolina Central University.
ACCUPLACER was developed, standardized, and validated by the College Board, a division of the Educational Testing Service (which also administers the SATs, GREs, and TOEFL tests). ACCUPLACER is used at more than 1,000 colleges nationwide, in an On-line format.
Each ACCUPLACER test is designed using adaptive techniques. Meaning that the computer automatically determines which questions are presented based on responses to prior questions. This technique "zeroes-in" on just the right questions to ask you without being too easy or too difficult. Because the test is adaptive, students will only have to answer 17 to 22 questions in each section. All questions are multiple choice and answers are selected using easy "point and click" methods. The test is also un-timed so students are able to do their very best
